Shrimp

Small, crayfish-like shellfish that live in relatively shallow water on sandbeds. The Dutch or grey shrimp is about 1.5 to 3cm long and particularly in the summer lives close below the coast. Shrimps are usually cooked on board the fishing vessel and peeled – by hand! – at the quayside.

Shrimps are often used as an ingredient in a meal, or in a (shrimp) salad. Very well known too of course is the prawn cocktail: on a salad leaf, with a whisky dressing poured over it.
