Cod

A roundfish that is found in the Atlantic Ocean, at depths of 20 to 400 metres. An adult cod can be up to 90cm in size. Small cod is also called ‘gul’ in Dutch, has a delicate flavour and flaky flesh. Because of the relatively high price (fishing for cod is somewhat under pressure) cod is currently offered primarily as fillet or in restaurants.

We all know cod, as an ingredient in fish fingers or fried as a main course. Cod is also smoked – it is then called ‘stockfish’, not to be despised. Fried cod is also called ‘kibbeling’ in Dutch.
